ACL Reconstruction
Recovering from ACL reconstruction takes time and the right approach. At City South Physio, we’ll guide you through each stage of rehabilitation, from reducing swelling and restoring movement to building strength and stability. With structured support and progressive training, we’ll help you return safely to sport and everyday life.
Overview
Recovering from an ACL reconstruction takes time, consistency, and the right approach. In the early stages, it’s normal to experience knee swelling, stiffness, and weakness that make walking, bending, and even sleeping uncomfortable. At City South Physio, we’ll guide you through each phase of your rehabilitation, ensuring you progress safely while protecting your newly grafted ligament.
Your program will begin with gentle mobility and activation exercises to restore knee movement, reduce swelling, and re-engage your quadriceps muscle. As always, these steps are in alignment with your surgeon’s guidelines and post-operative protocols. We know you get tight in the muscles you’re working, so we will consistently provide hands-on treatment to ensure you can keep progressing through your rehab.
We know ACL rehab is a long process, often taking 9-12 months, or more. So, we will be with you every step of the way. We will progress your exercises, and introduce you to a variety of different rehab options to keep you interested, challenged, and moving forward. These might include Pilates based exercises, or gym based exercises, plus exercises you can do at home. Importantly, we’ll help you all the way back to your return to sport, including return to sport testing.
